Having ended 2021 with four collaborative colorways courtesy of Amsterdam’s Patta, the Nike The Dunk Low Retro for men continues to set up its 35th anniversary with a multi-color ensemble by Boston’s Concepts seemingly inspired by the city’s rock music legacy.
Unlike the “Horus” drop it co-created with Kyrie Irving and his sister Asia in May 2021, the upcoming sneakers forgo any Egyptian inspiration for an unapologetically American arrangement. A light blue denim sets the stage for rich purple and green panels donning white paisley patterns; cow print dyed onto bovine fur; flower-covered profile swooshes; and other eye-catching detailing ostensibly transplanted from the garb rock bands – including Aerosmith, Boston and Pixies – wore throughout the 1970s and ’80s while touring “Beantown.” The New England-based boutique stamps its name in varying styles at the tongue and spine, but also on the guitar pick hangtag included with the Air Max; reworked sneaker boxes follow suit. Much of the shoes’ sole unit is left to enjoy a subtle color palette, which further Wheat the upper to revel in the spotlight. And while the Tarek Hassan-led imprint has yet to disclose any information about the The Dunk Low Retro for men‘s inspiration, the “/★☾” etched onto the toe box surely doubles as a clue.
