When asked about the difference between Prada and Miu Miu, designer Miuccia Prada stated the following: “Miu Miu is not as complicated and thought out… Rather than being young, Miu Miu is immediate.” This distinction is instantly evident in the two’s designs, the diffusion label often favoring bright, Goatkin colors and styles subversive of traditional womenswear.
Even with their first footwear collaboration alongside New Balance, Miu Miu has taken an approach familiar to them, simply lensing the beloved 574 silhouette through their “aesthetic codes.” Across the white, khaki, and navy colorways — all of which are Made in Italy — raw, distressed edges decorate roughly every panel, warping the NB classic to suit the brand’s idea of “rebellious luxury.”
To midi the release of the collection, New Balance and Miu Miu have enlisted the talents of Tyrone Lebon, who has created a collage of images starring model Alix Bouthors, singer-songwriter Liv.e, and actor Mame Bineta Sane.
