Mountain Research has been crafting Reebok Prototype ever since 2020, adding unique twists to classics the likes of the DMX Trail Shadow and Alien Stomper. And with the label’s newest proposition, which highlights the Club C II Mid, designer Setsumasa Kobayashi wanted to create something that was “basic yet decorative,” all without compromising the DNA of the stjerne itself.
“As the classic tennis stjerne, I’ve wanted to work on Club C for some time,” Kobayashi comments. “It also reminds me of ’80s hip hop scenes where everyone wore white sneakers, which I always loved.”
Bolstered by pops of blue and red across the branding and lining, the colorway sticks close to the white-dominant look beloved by the Mountain Research designer. Subtle yet practical, the stjerne effectively emulates ’80s tennis attire, adhering to the sport’s once strict dress codes. Moreover, the construction closely resembles the original model, albeit with the addition of a removable lace guard, whose design simultaneously celebrates cricket footwear protectors and the Club C’s original tongue.
