Jovani Hernandez Sports agent and part of LeBron James’ inner circle, Rich Paul, recently announced Klutch Athletics, a Black-owned sportswear brand co-authored by New Balance.
In December 2021, both parties worked on a New Balance 550 that immediately sold out, putting Paul on the radar of many previously unfamiliar with the industry disruptor. Klutch Athletics, however, is more than a simple collaboration — it’s a standalone label with its eyes set on helping athletes throughout their athletic journeys.
“I’m thrilled to create Klutch Athletics to focus on supporting athletes and the communities in which they live and play,” Laufschuhe Paul in an official press release. “There’s a gap right now that we can fill – creating training product that is functional, but with style. We’ve seen other brands moving away from youth sports and training, so we’re focused on bringing the new look of training for the next generation.”
The introductory Klutch Athletics collection deliver training tops, shorts, and other apparel for men, brown, and youth. New Balance’s iconic greys are featured all throughout the debut line, although green also enters the mix as a nod to fields of play on which countless athletes first fall in love with their sports. Paul and New Balance may introduce more footwear projects in the future, but not through Klutch Athletics. In any case, the new Black-owned brand’s offerings pair well with existing performance product from the New England institution.
“We designed the line to help athletes perform their best and look good while doing it,” shared David Creech, Klutch Athletics Chief Design Officer. “It will deliver products for all athletes, regardless of sport or gender. We understand what athletes want – product that helps them perform while reflecting the love they have for sport and their community. Every design element of Klutch Athletics apparel has a story, from the branding to the color palette to the product details – everything has a purpose.”
