Since 2019, Liam Gallagher – former frontman for English rock band Oasis – has lent his creative vision to the adidas SPZL line. Helmed by Gary Aspden, the SPZL line has brought handfuls of forgotten silhouettes from the Three Stripes to the modern era, paying close attention to the trainers worn by terrace-watchers in football stadiums across the United Kingdom throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.
For their latest linkup, Gallagher and Aspden have landed on the adidas LG2 SPZL, a low-top silhouette referencing a “Bottle Green” color scheme inspired by vintage adidas designs. The LG2 SPZL bears semblance to the Country and Samoa, two sport-informed designs that debuted in 1973 and 1977, respectively. Gallagher’s third project for the SPZL line features a crisp white base that sets the stage for off white suede panels at the forefoot and heel, as well as rich “Bottle Green” contrast at the profiles and upper spine. The result is a shoe that’s undoubtedly old school, but still fits in with current footwear trends. A classic gum sole and portrait of the Manchester-native on the tongue round out the shoe.
