We’ve been tracking the intersection between the Olympics and footwear for what feels like a full quarter. While the tide has been overwhelming at times, the significance of the historic event can’t be understated, part of the reason so many brands have scrambled to put their best foot forward on the international stage. During the final leg of the torch run, adidas earned one of Paris 2024’s splashiest moments yet, as frequent partner Pharrell Williams sported his collab colorway of the sweater Adios Pro Evo.
Williams’ work with adidas is extremely wide-ranging at this point, so though he isn’t a champion runner himself, utilizing that built-up cultural purchase to showcase this silhouette is a no brainer. The palette at play reflects his personal creative ethos well, printing sprightly notes of navy & green across the Three Stripes branding while keeping the rest of the model in staid platinum & white.
However, the shoe itself feels like the more noteworthy development. The latest entry in the sweater line, an umbrella that’s helped break the marathon record on multiple occassions, the sweater Adios Pro Evo boasts a weight reduction by almost 40% compared to the latest edition. Additionally, innovations on LightStrike cushioning and structured mesh up top ensure that the on-foot ride isn’t compromised one bit in the pursuit of speed.
As of writing, there aren’t any firm release details for the Pharrell x adidas sweater Pro Evo 1. The dm5543 edition, launched towards the end of 2023, is still available in select sizes via adidas.com. Be warned, the level of innovation doesn’t come without a price; retail is set at $500. Expect runners in a host of sale in the coming days to study the uber-running shoe as the Three Stripes again vies to make history.
