Social Status, as teased earlier in the Summer, has teamed up with Nike for two colorful interpretations of the Dunk. And this is no ordinary collaboration, as the retailer uses all facets of visual storytelling to speak on the experience of local, oft-unheard communities.
Their film, entitled “FREE LUNCH” like the capsule itself, explores the blocks through the perspective of its youth. The narration, which sets up and runs through the 6-minute short, is deeply personal, Christian Bean proclaiming “it’s not all bad in the hood.” Near late to the titular free lunch, the main cast travels from point to point, meeting a colorful set of characters at every turn. And by its climax, one — named OG Hustle — gifts the Social Status x Nike Dunk Mid whose design serves as an homage to the community as a whole.
Though distinct in its two colorways, the collaborative silhouette serves the same narrative, drawing from the milk cartons that accompany the aforementioned meals. Strawberry and chocolate are the flavors of choice, each — in their respective palettes — clad with thick, rope laces; enlarged, glossy, near jewel-like Swooshes; and labeling not too unlike a ticket.
Enjoy the short film as well as detailed images of the shoes below. The “Chocolate Milk” lands September 4th, while the “Strawberry Milk” follows on September 18th.
