Though most likely attribute a “pack” release to collaborations between sneaker brands and outside imprints, companies have shown a willingness to bring that same energy to in-house offerings. Asics is no exception, and they’re picking up that mantle once again with their once-Awake exclusive GEL-NYC, landing in three contrasting colorways.
As the title would suggest, the “Wide Mesh” Pack chiefly diverges from the core Asics GEL-NYC in their structure, expanding the pattern of their uppers from a close, standard knit to a pronounced geometric hex.
Each of the three sneakers included bring a different delicate hue to center stage. For two of them, in “Ash Rock” and “Mid Grey,” it becomes the dominant shade. On those cement and lilac shaded pairs, small bits of accenting are hidden on very heel and the tongue, but the lowkey pallete they adopt does most of the heavy lifting.
That leaves the final pair, in “Wood Crepe,” as the most animated. That beige takes up the bulk of the upper overlays, while “Harbor Blue” marks the wide mesh sections. It isn’t inherently clashing, but neither is it complementary, making these the statement pieces out of the trio. Closing out the design, those aforementioned spots of accenting are dressed here in a ruby red for a few final bits of highlighting.
The Asics Gel-NYC “Wide Mesh” Pack arrives alongside one another on March 1st, each commanding a $130 price tag. Look below for official images and detailed information on where to land your pair.
For more out of the runners world, the one of NB’s key models is dropping in two new editions with the New Balance 1906R “Astral Purple” and New Balance 1906R “Dawn Glow.”
