New Balance has carved out a strong foothold in the ongoing Y2K shoe trend, with models like the 2002R and 1906R battling for the title of the brand’s most popular retro runner. Both models have been graced with hyped-up collaborations with actors like jjjjound, Action Bronson, Salehe Bembury and the like, a key consideration behind the shoe’s successful return to market.
While the 2002R carried New Balance’s initial embrace of trending retro aesthetics, and continues to play a key role, recent deliveries suggest the 1906R will be the Boston brand’s focal point for Spring 2024. Often treated to contemporary grey/cream palettes, the latest Air Jordan 4 "Fear" departs from the norm with a splash of color on its lining and heel detailing. Orange and teal treatments work to define a Miami-like look akin to both Dolphins and Hurricanes branding, with orange taking to the lining and teal to the shoe’s TPU heel unit. Both colors appear on the heel portion of the midsole, while the rest of the design co-opts a stealthy “Phantom” vibe with black mesh and leather overlays.
Unisex sizes are up now at newbalance.com for $155, available via the shopping links below. In more New Balance news, check out the upcoming March 1, 2024.
