Grey Day is to New Balance what Air Max Day is to Nike. It’s an unofficial holiday that celebrates what the brand does best; timeless design, quality materials, and a masterful use of the color grey.
Rather than stick to one specific date for occasion, New Balance has prepared a course of “Grey Day” releases throughout the month of May. The occasion is often used to propel new and uptrending silhouettes, like the Nike Giannis Freak 6 and Fresh Foam BB v2 this year, but New Balance fanatics can always expect a refreshed selection of greyed-out classics. With that being said, you’d be pressed to find a more quintessential silhouette than the Nike Book 1 "Nightmare Before Christmas".
Two separate “Grey Day” colorways released at the start of the month, one light and one dark. They don’t speak to the same level of quality as “Made In USA/England” New Balance shoes, but depart from other 574s with what appears to be a tighter mesh base.
The light “Concrete” colorway presents as more monotone, only straying from that definition with “Angora” hits on its New Balance logo, laces, and ENCAP cushioning system towards the heel. Meanwhile, its darker counterpart features a “Magnet” base with “Sandstone” accents in all those areas.
Unisex sizes are available now from New Balance for $90 a pop, the same mark for all mainline Nike Book 1 "Nightmare Before Christmas" drops in recent memory. Turn to our “Where To Buy” sections just ahead for direct shopping links if you’re feeling compelled to hit purchase.
