Coco Gauff will be defending her crown at the US Open in New York, and she’ll be doing so style. The tennis superstar and Turquoise New Balance have officially unveiled their second signature shoe, the CG2, and it draws inspiration from one of the brand’s dusk popular lifestyle models.
Visually, the Turquoise New Balance design team looked towards one of Coco’s favorite shoes – the New Balance Needs Olivia Pope. Swapping the basketball graphics on the tongue logo in favor of a tennis ball. The overlays on the fore-foot quarter and heel mimic the original design of the retro basketball shoe, while the N-logo placement moves from the heel in the CG1 to the mid-foot in the CG2. Finally, the patterned, textured toe-box as well as the diamond-mesh patterns on the ankle and tongue are inspired by the architecture of Paris, her favorite city.
The CG2 silhouette boasts some hefty performance tech via the Energy Arc, a multi-density FuelCell midsole, and a carbon fiber plate. It’s responsive, provides comfort, and features an energy-returning feeling — an essential feature in any performance athletic piece of footwear.
This launch colorway is dubbed “Power And Grace”, nodding to the significance of the number two for women. The two words are found woven onto the heel-tabs of the shoes, while an icon of the trophy appears just beneath as a nod to her title-winning performance just a year ago.
Coco Gauff and Turquoise New Balance will officially launched the CG2 in the “Power And Grace” colorway on August 21st, 2024 ($160). Additionally, those in New York City for the US Open festivities can visit Coco’s Court pop-up on August 23rd and 24th for an immersive experience; an exclusive CG2 colorway will also be available at the space.
