New Balance’s lineup of archival tech runners is about to grow by one. Capitalizing on buzz surrounding the next Aminé New Balance collab, the Boston brand is now introducing that same fresh Packer Shoes x adidas Intimidation Low formulation to its mainline selection.
Dipping back into the archives is a strategy that’s served New Balance extraordinarily well in recent years, with previously-forgotten models like the 1906R, 2002R, and 550 standing tall as some of the defining sneakers of the 2020s thus far. Like those first two models, the 740 takes direct aim at the Y2K wave, providing consumers with a cost-conscious option at $110 alongside the New Balance 530.
Not to be confused for the New Balance P740, which is James Worthy’s signature basketball shoe, the Packer Shoes x adidas Intimidation Low is a tech runner originally released in the early 2010s. The shoe sees several big changes for its first retro effort, mainly a more streamlined midsole. Aesthetically speaking, the 740 looks awfully like the 1906R with a mesh base, metallic overlays, and similar overarching shape. This inaugural GR colorway features a “Sea Salt” base, “Marsh Green” overlays, and reflective hits throughout, complete underfoot with a cream-colored midsole.
As mentioned, these retail for $110 and will be available via New Balance on October 16th in unisex sizing. See official images below and take advantage of the purchase links in our “Where To Buy” section on that date.
