adidas and curator turned designer Sean Wotherspoon team up this season to create the SUPEREARTH Superstar – an Earth-friendly reimagining of a global court icon. The eco-conscious, animal-free construction is typical of the Virginia native, while the heritage design lines stay exactly as expected. The serrated Three Stripe branding is still there, as is the nickname-giving rubber shell toe, but the sneaker is playful and far removed from anything that graced the court in the ‘70s.
The style’s usual leather uppers are replaced by a vegan-friendly recycled polyester and covered in floral embroidery – the thread of which hangs as a nod to the Y-3 Super Position. The eco-conscious construction continues underfoot, too, with a cork-topped, SUPEREARTH-branded sockliner providing comfort and a sustainably sourced, natural rubber and waste rubber sole unit giving that classic court aesthetic. Reworked emblems on both the heel and tongue act as a proclamation of the SUPEREARTH initiative to complete the look.
