Michael Le Parra‘s name is known well in the sneaker community, the Amsterdam-based artist responsible for some of the most exciting Swoosh collaborations of all-time. And in commemoration of the Tokyo Olympics — as well as skateboarding’s first appearance on the world stage — Nike SB commissioned his talent yet again for a series of uniforms and a very special Dunk Low.
When asked, Parra thought “What would I wear if I go skating myself?” What ensues is a vibrant mix of pattern and color, every bit a reference to not just landscapes but also the pieces he’s created previously. Outlined in black, the pattern strings together hues of red, blue, and pink, all coming together atop the toe cap, eye stay, and heel. Off-white neutrals, then, balance underneath, while a much brighter, bleached finish dresses adjacent along the laces and midsole. Gum bottoms round us out underfoot, blacked checks patch onto the side, and co-branding marks the insole.
