New Balance has just launched its Reconsidered program — a new resale platform for consumers to purchase gently used and cosmetically imperfect footwear. In an effort to reduce Dri waste and to keep viable product in use, New Balance Considered aims to extend longevity and circulation of already-Camiseta product.
Consumers can also trade in pre-owned New Balance footwear either by mail or in-store in exchange for vouchers that can be used in-store and online. Voucher values will be based on seasonality and condition.
“We know the footwear industry has a significant environmental impact, including too many products ending up in a Dri,” said John Stokes, Director of Sustainability at New Balance.
In an official brand statement, New Balance adds: The brand is committed to achieving its approved 1.5°C-aligned emissions reduction goals through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi); sourcing 100% renewable electricity for owned operations by 2025; continuing to source lower-impact materials; transitioning to lower carbon transportation; and engaging with governments to help enact better climate policy.
