While that iconic Swoosh release was something of a “Team Bank” proposition, offering alums and current students the change to rock their school’s colors, the ties run a bit deeper with BAPE’s take. The wool of varsity letterman jackets takes up the Shooting Star logo on both pairs, matched by suede overlays, a rarely seen touch on the skateboarding silhouette. With official press referring to the “iconic American collegiate 38-5,” the pair in red, white and blue is no doubt meant to be patriotic. The black & yellow may not carry the same weight, but that combination never fails, delivering a sleek look whether it’s meant for Steelers or Hawkeyes fans.
Of course, no discussion of the Japanese company’s product is complete without a mention of the Bape lawsuit. The SK8 Sta appears unadulterated from its previous configuration here, expected given the latency between the final decision and its effect on actual production.
