History of the brand
William J. Riley was one of many English immigrants living in Boston, Massachusetts in 1906. He had trained as a shoemaker in his homeland and wanted to help people with foot problems in America. The releases came to him in his garden. Watching his chickens, he was amazed at how easily they could keep their balance with three toes. This is how he is said to have come up with the releases of naming his new shoe „New Balance“. In the middle of the economic crisis, the young entrepreneur Arthur Hall joined them and they moved the company to Cambridge, Massachusetts. They produced their shoes specifically for athletes in baseball, basketball, tennis, boxing and running. In the 1950s Hall's daughter took over the company and organised one of the first charity drives. The money raised went to the American Red Cross. This was just the beginning of the ever popular New Balance charity events. The year 1961 went down in New Balance sneaker history. It was the year when the Teackster was the most worn shoe in the American sports scene and colleges. In the mid-70s, Hall's daughter sold the company to a young man, Jim Davis, for $100,000. The company consisted of 6 employees who made 30 shoes a day. In the early 80s the first international sales office opened in London and the first European factory in Great Britain. By its 100th anniversary in 2006, New Balance had over 2,800 employees on all continents. The brand is still one of the four largest sports brands in the world.
Influence on the fashion scene
New Balance has spread like wildfire and become a fashion statement. Everyone knows them, the New Balance. Even if you shouldn't have an immediate image in mind. At the latest when you are told that these are the shoes with the N on the outside, everyone knows which shoe it is.
Top models of the brand and their special features
The range includes not only running and walking shoes but also lifestyle models. The die-hard user will know the popular models such as The 576, The 577 and The 1500. The 576 has achieved cult status in both New York and Tokyo. The 577 is the ultimate running shoe and has been unmatched since 1989. It has become an all-time classic in many different target groups. The 1500 is still a fan favourite. The most stable and technically advanced running shoe, with its midsole, stands out a little from the usual design.
Prominent New Balance wearers
The shoes go with everything because of the wide range of colours. And even celebrities wear them with dignity. Best times have been run in New Balance shoes. Not only famous athletes like Andre Ethier (baseball) and Matt Bonner (basketball) swear by their New Balance shoes, but also record runners like Khalid Khannouchi. He is the third fastest marathon runner. Of course, he was wearing New Balance shoes. They are also the icing on the cake for other stars. Above all, Steve Jobs was a self-confessed New Balance wearer. Women like Megan Fox also have New Balance shoes in their wardrobes. And Heidi Klum is the German New Balance model.
